From the big parking area set well apart from the house a trail bordered with cactus and flowering bushes leads to the lower part of the property and to the guest houses, the first of which isDammuso Chicco with an ample terrace in front shaded by the classical cane roof and the branches of an enormous olive tree. The tiny dammuso contains a double bedroom and a generous bathroom with shower, both elegantly appointed with originally ethnic wooden furniture; the colour scheme of earthen reds and browns recalls the colours of Pantelleria and the whole layout shows, like the rest of the property, impeccable taste and elegance even in the smallest detail. The trail leads onward to the so-calledStanza Azzurra (Blue Room), another small dammuso with double bedroom and en-suite bathroom furnished with beautiful old furniture; the dominant colours here are blue and beige. The tiny terrace is overhung by a large bougainvillea plant with its myriad blossoms and has a wooden bench and table. Just around a bend of the trail there is the third guest apartment, the very elegant and privateStanza di Carole consisting in double bedroom an en-suite bath, all done in white, beige, earthen brown and black as an homage to nearby Africa. The minuscule house is surrounded by abundant Mediterranean vegetation among which lavish bougainvilleas lend vivid touches of violet and fuchsia.A short flight of stone steps goes then up to the main house with its various terraces encircling it; these are generous outdoor areas perfectly appointed with multicoloured cushions and drapes, deck chairs and low tables of flawless elegance- ideal for a dreamy candlelight dinner or a truly relaxed cocktail hour contemplating Pantelleria’s stunning countryside and the sea beyond. From here the trail continues through a pine-planted area and leads eventually to the large swimming pool area complete with deck chairs and table and set partly under a shade roof made of palm leaves, partly under the branches of spreading old olive trees with which the rest of the property is planted. On the rear of the main house is the ample open-air dining area under a roof made of palm leaves an surrounded by bougainvillea plants and a large vine completely encircling it; an enormous wooden table seats eight and calls for conviviality. A door opens into the perfectly appointed kitchen, a generous old Pantelleria-style room with vaulted ceiling and a big table at the center. On the left a small hallway gives access to the elegant master bedroom with en-suite bathroom; it contains an open fireplace and a divan and is big enough to serve as a small, intimate sitting room. A glass door opens onto the terrace.The kitchen gives access to yet another room, also with an en-suite bathroom and equipped with a queen-size sofa bed and a beautiful wooden closet; an archway opens into the large living room complete with fireplace, couches, bookshelves and TV/music stand, furnished with originality and the impeccable taste which distinguishes the whole property. Big glass doors set into broad arches lead outside, onto the rear patio and the dining area.
The surrounding areaPractically in front of the house is theSalto della Vecchia cliffside, a vantage point which offers a truly breathtaking view on the coast below and can be reached only on foot from the geeneral road.Not very distant is the picturesque little port of Scauri where boats and rubber dinghies can be rented; there is also a diving center. Just a few metres from that is the beautifulla Vela bay with a small slipway for boats and smooth rocks extending into the water which is here shallow and thus a good place for children and swimmers with little experience. The tiny village of Scauri offers restaurants, pubs, daily papers, a tobacconist and a small but rather well-stocked supermarket.
